I know my name is a little difficult to pronounce, so you can just call me Capi. I will get to the story about my name a little later. The most important thing to know about me is that I TRULY am a Princess. You remember the fairy tale about the Princess that had such long hair that her Prince climbed up her hair to save her from being in the tower? Well, my mane is just about that long and I am very beautiful. Marcas and I go to a lot of shows together. Even though I might be a lot smaller in stature than he is I get just as much attention because I am so petite and lovely. I have also won a lot of blue ribbons and a Reserve Championship in an Open All Breed Gaited show that had 21 horses in it!! So you see, I may be little, but I am mighty!! I actually represent the true Peruvian horse, which was small of statue with a long flowing mane and tail. When we came into this country I guess the breeders bred for bigger horses because the two leggeds here are bigger than the two leggeds in Peru. That’s about the only reason I can think of.
I
had a pretty tough time when I was growing up. I don’t want to go into that too
much because it depresses me. I will tell you that I developed some pretty
serious nervous habits, like chewing wood, wind sucking and pawing deep holes
into the ground. Because those bad things happened to me I did not trust the two
leggeds and did not want to be caught by them. They could chase me around a
pasture all day and never catch me! I also did not like to be petted and said,
“Please do not touch my face or ears.” Gloria and I became friends in 2001.
Gloria said, Capi you are going to be a beautiful show horse, just you wait and
see.” I said, “Are you kidding!! I am only 9 years old and never had a bit in my
mouth or been in a show ring.” I was entered in the Southeastern Regional
Peruvian Horse Show in April of 2002 and I won a second place ribbon! Gloria
said, “See Capi, miracles do happen!”
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you about my name. Just before Gloria bought me I was in a pasture at my previous owners place. There were three other mares in the pasture with me and being the Alpha Mare that I am I was always telling them what to do and when to do it. One night two Doberman pinschers broke into the pasture and started to chase us. I was herding the other mares to safety when one of them jumped on me, took a hold of my hind leg and would not let go. I had a hard time getting my leg out of his mouth and it was bleeding pretty badly. The other mares did get away safely, but when the two leggeds came to help me I would not let them catch me and they thought that I was bleeding so badly that I might not live. I ran and ran and ran, which just made things worse. I finely had to give up. I just could not run anymore. The Vet was able to treat my wounds and save my leg. My name at that time was Capuchina. When Gloria heard my story she made a great fuss over my bravery and said I deserved to have a name that matched my “heart.” She had Capuchina changed to Valiente Doncella, which means valiant or brave lady.
Well, I have to go now to put some ribbons in my hair and shine up my patent leather shoes. It’s Show Time……Just Turn on the Lights!!
