I have been anxious to tell my story and I kept trying to interrupt.  I was told to “respect my elders” and wait my turn.  Finally it IS my turn!

I was born March 7, 2004.  It was REALLY cold and windy that morning.  My mamma was in the barn in the birthing stall and my Uncle Marcas was in the stall beside her.  He kept her company the whole time that we were there.  Wow, what a shock to come into, what seemed to me to be a terribly cold place.  I was happy to be free and to be able to get up and walk on my wobbly legs.  It was not long before I was running around the paddock area and just having the best time.

Soon after I was born Gloria and some of her friends did what they called “Imprinting.” What that meant to me was that they were making a great deal of fuss over nothing.  First they petted me all over then they put up umbrellas over my head.  They wrapped towels over my ears. They ran clippers that made a horrible noise and did all sorts of “weird” things.  I looked at my mom to see if she knew what in the world was going on!  She just looked back and said, “It’s O. K. no one is going to hurt you.”  Well I was glad when that stuff was over with and I could go out and run around and play some more.  Mom and I were taken to a beautiful pasture with big oak trees and a little hill that I could run up and down.  I “gaited” my way all around that pasture!!!

I had a little lead rope on my halter and Gloria would lead me around every day.  I soon learned to walk forward and backward and stop when she stopped. I had the best mom in the whole horse world.  She was so kind and good to me.  It got pretty scary that summer.  There were three hurricanes that came and I was only 5 months old.  Uncle Tivo was here at that time and he and my mom protected me from the winds and the rain.  We all got through it and I am no longer fearful of storms.

I grew up pretty fast and lost the nickname of “My Baby Girl.”  I was soon called “Long Tall Sally!”  I learned that “go to your station,” meant it was time to eat and I went immediately to my feed dish. I got combed and brushed every day in the pasture and led all over the place.  I had lots of visitors who would come in the pasture to pet me and hug me.  I just loved all the attention.  I soon learned to identify people by the smell of their shoes. So, if you come to visit me and I smell your shoes don’t get upset…it’s just a habit of mine!

Well, enough of my baby talk.  I am now 4 years old and just full of myself.  I had a wonderful trainer named Jose. He started my halter and bozel training last November. He and I would workout in the round pen and the big arena.  We were really a team!!!   I have a “locked in” gait, with lots of termino and my tail moves like a broom sweeping the floor. I have lots of Brio and energy and I pay attention to what I am being asked to do.  It is so much “fun” that I don’t know why they call it “training???”

I am proud to tell you that I won Reserve Champion of the Halter Classes at the Southeastern Peruvian Horse Show in April 2007. It was the first time that I had been away from home and it was a bit scary because my mom was not there with me.  The “Princess” took care of me and told me not to worry that it would all be fine.  Gloria says she is proud of me because I did not kick the stalls or get nervous, I ate my food and drank my water and acted like I had done it all before.  I really like to show off.  I guess I am a lot like my Uncle Marcas. I am going to be a Show Girl !  I do have to brag a little.  I have “show” blood in my veins.  My grandfather (Solido) and my great, great grandfather (Piloto) were both quite famous in the world of Peruvian horses. I have a lot to live up to!!!

I have had a very happy four years, here at the Casa de Gloria. There is just one thing I do want to complain about and that is Sam Waddles and the Waddles Gang.  I just cannot stand those Guinea Hens!  No one else seems to mind them running in between their legs, but they drive me crazy.

They come in my pasture while I am trying to eat and just start yucking up a storm. You can’t hear your self think!  Well, I just turn myself around and chase them right out of the pasture. Before you know it they are right back in there again.  Oh me, what is a horse to do??

Happy Trails!!
