       Hola mis amigos!!

First of all you need to know that this really is MY ranch. I am in charge of taking care of the horses here.  You can bet I have a hard job looking out for all these mares! I am the only gelding in the herd and it is my duty to keep everyone safe from harm.  I also have to make sure everyone knows that I am number one and that I am known as the “King!” One of the students that came here for riding lessons made a very astute observation.  He said that he thinks of it as a Kingdom and that I am the King.  He said Alhaja is the Queen and Capi the Princess. He had all of that right!!  Now, I don’t want you to think that I am an “Attila the Hun” type or like those Conquistadors. That is not my way of “being in charge.” You might say I rule by Gentle Persuasion…… well, or else!

Along with my role of watching over the Kingdom I participate in local open All Breed Gaited Shows and Regional Peruvian Shows. I have won many blue ribbons and championships.  I have been a Champion Luxury Gelding and I absolutely love showing off.! I am very handsome, have a lot of energy (known as Brio) and the smoothest gait that you can imagine.  Gloria says she feels like she is riding on a cloud when we perform.

I will share a secret with you if you promise not to tell the rest of the herd this.  I am Gloria’s favorite.  I was her first Peruvian horse. We met each other nine years ago and it was “love at first sight!”  I was not too trusting then and I was really quite a handful, but she did not give up on me. She did not know anything about Peruvian horses.  As you probably could guess I taught her just about everything she needed to know!  We have been through a lot together and there is a very special bond between us.

I will share something else with you that did not make much sense to me. I was gelded when I was very young. I come from very “exclusive” Peruvian bloodlines, but when I was born I had a lot of white on my face and legs.  I heard that someone paid a lot of money for my breeding, but when they saw all that white they did not want me. In the Peruvian world of horses a lot of white on the face and above the hock are not acceptable.   I had both!!  This really bothered me for a long time.  But, being the “strong heart” that I am I survived that rejection and went on to become a wonderful show horse, because I had everything else going for me. It was many years later that Gloria shared with me the fact that I was so very special. She told me that the Comanche Indians honor and regard with great respect a horse with half a white face.  He is known as the “Ghost Horse’ because he carries the spirits of the Ancestors with him. You cannot imagine how great this made me feel! I know now that I am VERY special.

It is hard to believe, but with all my Brio and energy I can still be gentle and patient with the kids and adults that come here.  There is one girl who always asks for me for her lessons.  She seems to be very sad and I am very patient with her. There is another lady who comes here that thinks I am very handsome.  She seems to be nervous and upset all of the time. Since I know a little bit about how that feels I have been able to understand her and to help her. I also work with a lady who has special needs.  Hey, I’m just an “All Around Guy!”

Hasta Luego !!
